StratAGEic strengthens the use of strategic litigation to protech older people's rights
The StratAGEic project has reached an important milestone with the completion of its three-step training programme on strategic litigation and older people’s rights. The programme brought together 42 people in training 1, 37 in peer-learning and 42 in training 2 including professionals, older people and other stakeholders in three online learning sessions held on 16, 23 and 30 June.
The training followed a practical learning pathway, moving from understanding strategic litigation, to peer learning and case analysis, and finally to using the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights as a litigation tool. Participants explored how carefully selected legal cases can go beyond individual justice and contribute to wider legal, policy and social change.
The sessions covered practical issues such as identifying strategic cases, building legal and advocacy support, choosing appropriate legal routes, and addressing age discrimination through national and European legal mechanisms. Particular attention was given to the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, including rights related to equality, non-discrimination and dignity, and to how the Charter can support litigation strategies.
As an important outcome, StratAGEic has made a collection of training materials and practical resources freely available, including presentations, case studies, exercises and reports in several languages. These resources are designed to help organisations and advocates better understand and use strategic litigation to challenge ageism and advance equality in older age.
The next step is to turn knowledge into action—strengthening the capacity of civil society to use the law as a tool for lasting change in the fight against ageism.
